The concentrations of the chemicals of
concern (COCs) in each cell are the
state variables of our model.
- Ammonium, NH3
- Produced by nitrogen cycle in the dump,
and treated by nitrogen cycle in the rhizosphere
- Nitrate, NO3
- Produced by nitrogen cycle in the dump,
and treated by nitrogen cycle in the rhizosphere
- Biological Oxygen Demand, BOD
- results in H2O and CO2
- Metals
- sequestered in organic forms in rhizosphere
- react with H2S producing metal sulfates
- Hydrocarbons
- results in H2O and SO2
- Sulfate, SO3
- reacts with BOD to produce H2S
