Bacteria and plants
See (Stolp, 1988, p. 191)
- phyllosphere (leaf surfaces)
- rhizosphere (roots)
- root nodules
- plant pathogens
In SimMud, the rhizosphere is especially important.
rhizosphere
- size
- extends a few millimeters around the roots
- bacterial density
- 10X or 100X that of nearby soil (R/S ratio)
- organic compounds present
- root exudates (esp. CO2, O2), dead root cells
